Annotation
The poem Trilogy by the American Twentieth-Century poet H.D. is examined with the aim of describing its author as an enunciating subject. The analysis considers pragma-linguistic features such as: person deixis, speech acts, quotations and reported speech, textual strategies yielding implicit meaning. It is shown how the author strengthens herself as a subject and attains higher levels of authority in her enunciation. Her attitude towards gender is also examined and it is claimed that she is both supporting and attempting to practice feminine autonomy, albeit in discourse also addressed to men.
