This study discusses the meaning of several Russian particles, - tol'ko, daze, -to, razve and neueli- (roughly, ‘only’, ‘even’, ‘emphasis’ and ‘question’), and proposes a paraphrase for them. It then examines the usefulness of the concepts of ‘presupposition’ and ‘modal frame’ in the semantic analysis of particles.
