This article explicates a range of English ‘approximatives’, -such as around, about, approximately, roughly, at least, at the most, almost and nearly-, and proposes a paraphrase for each particle. It argues in favor of a ‘radically semantic’ as opposed to a ‘radically pragmatic’ approach to particles.
