Annotation

This paper focuses on the use of extreme case formulations within the context of inquiry testimony in crisis situations, to avoid having to explain possibly blameworthy actions. This practice is exemplified in the case of the inquiry into the causes of water contamination in a small town in Ontario, Canada.
