Annotation

This paper describes the sociolinguistic situation of Marseilles, emphasizing the high status of Provençal language in spite of very low usage, the comic aspects of the regional French of Marseilles (RFM), the language contact with Arabic and Italian and RFM's many uses and social functions, such as creating in-group solidarity, reinforcing urban and social identity, creativity in verbal art and others.
