Annotation

This ethnographic case study investigates the sociocultural contexts of the implementation of the Mexican "Bilingual Bicultural Education Program" (BBEP) (1991) in a federal school serving Tarahumara indigenous populations, the role of the school and the BBEP in indigenous language maintenance, and the way that state-developed BBEP goals match teachers' and parents' expectations of school and (bi)literacy.
