This study presents a factor analytic study of motivational orientations in Virgin Islands high school students. The findings of this study are interpreted within the light of what is known regarding achievement behaviors of middle-class American youth, and consequences are discussed for the teaching of students from different cultural backgrounds who attend classes conducted in the Western style.
