This paper, drawing on the interpretive framework offered by politeness theory and critical discourse analysis, employs a corpus linguistic approach to compare an American and a Canadian military report, examining the Kandahar incident of the U.S. "friendly fire" bombing of Canadian troops on the 17th of April 2002.
