Annotation
The paper is devoted to a redefinition of the term 'performative sentence' in order to incorporate it into a logical grammar, more specifically Montague grammar. The central claim is that the distinction between performative and non-performative sentences and between performative and non-performative verbs does not have to be looked for at a syntactic or semantic level, but at the level of pragmatics. G. and S. only regard Austin's 'explicit performatives' as performative sentences.
