Annotation

This study investigates self-directed language learning attitudes and strategies that may be typical of Chinese students of English as a foreign language. The data indicate that these attitudes and strategies are determined by the constraints of the specific teaching and learning contexts. They also call into question the stereotypic notions of passive and dependent Asian learners.
