G. aims at reconciling the account of linguistic rules given by action theorists, with that given by linguists. The discussion includes topics such as the distinction between constitutive and regulative rules, the 'conventionality' of natural language, the marks of social rules, the distinction between linguistic actions and acts, the concepts 'person' and 'linguistic person', performativity and meaning (with a consideration of speech act theory).
