Annotation

On a series of constructions with a verb obligatorily taking an 'it' subject. It is claimed that these forms belong to a class of existential-presentative verbs, which have the syntactic function of forming predicates from nonverbal elements and a corresponding pragmatic function of introducing new information into discourse.
