Annotation

This essay deals with the fragmentary, many-sided work of the American linguist and anthropologist Edward Sapir (1884–1939), including besides linguistic and anthropological topics, subjects as psychiatry, literature and music. A link is made to contemporary work in pragmatics, with special reference to the tradition of ethnography of speaking.
