Whereas 'functional theories of language' are concerned with the functions of language, 'functional sentence perspective' is said to deal with one of those, viz. the text-creating function. This fact, together with the fact that functions of language are reflected in the language system, determines the place of functional sentence perspective in the system of linguistic description.
