Annotation

This paper on the relationship between foreign language research and social and political power, explores the conflicting demands currently faced by foreign language researchers and educators: the global economic demand for communicative and intercultural competence, and the U.S. demand for speakers of ‘advanced foreign language proficiency levels’ to serve national security needs.
