This paper explores the foundations and the antecedents of Chomsky's Minimalist Program for linguistic theory, drawing parallels with (meta-)methodological foundations in more developed sciences such as physics. It is argued that the establishment of such parallels furthers direct inquiry in linguistics and cognitive science, unifying both disciplines.
