This study uses Goffman's alignment notion, Bakhtin's dialogicality notion, and A. L. Becker's conception of interaction as an action of 'reshaping' old texts into new contexts, to examine how a part-time working mother, Janet, reshapes her own previous discourse and that of her child across three conversations, thus creating multiple alignments and identities.
