This paper demonstrates the relevance of a sociocognitive view on discourse by offering a new theory of context. Via a fragmental ‘contextual analysis’ of one of Tony Blair's speeches on the Iraqi war in the British House of Commons, it is demonstrated how such context models account for many political interactional aspects that cannot be explained through autonomous text and talk approaches.
