Rejecting the claim of the central principle of nucearity in text organization, this paper presents the relational text analysis framework which explains the paratactic and hypotactic realization of textual coherence relations, to examine academic writers' choices regarding the distribution of discoursal salience and their intertextual and intercultural variation.
