This study compares the functioning of antonyms in four different fields: Adult-Produced Writing , Adult-Produced Speech and Child-Produced Speech and Child-Directed Speech. It thereto respectively uses a corpus of Independent newspaper data, the spoken component of the British National Corpus and selected corpora from the CHILDES database. The article examines issues relating to antonym acquisition, inter-corpus differences, and assesses the study's methodological value.
