This paper argues that it is more preferable to speak about extended meaning units (Sinclair, 1996) than about the concept of lexical meaning. It then discusses how these new findings affect the semantics/pragmatics boundary. It further provides different language analyses in Danish, English and Italian to back the existence of inherent evaluative meaning and pragmatic evaluative meaning.
