Annotation

This paper investigates some of the less obvious stakes put at risk in gatekeeping encounters. In the context of giving testimony in high stakes gatekeeping encounters of protective order interviews, battered Latina women narrators put at risk, in narrating taboo subjects: their positive and negative face; their ability to control their identity constructions; their credibility and sincerity from the viewpoint of the interviewers; and their control over their case as victim.
