Annotation

This study starts from the premise that a global lingua franca status of English replaces the use of other languages and that the English as a scientific language prestige can also cause indigenous language- and culture-specific communicative conventions to become superseded by English conventions. Using the example of macrosyntactic conjunction involving and and und in English and German popular scientific texts, this paper examines whether German language-specific information organization strategies adapt to English communicative styles.
