Using Malinowski's classic discussion of magical speech's 'co-efficients' of 'weirdness and intelligibility', this article explores the fraught link between intelligibility and subject formation in the Tibetan diaspora and Tibetan Buddhist modernists' efforts in India to redefine the subject.
