This paper discusses how Cicourel's theory concerning distributed knowledge relating interactional orders and processes to institutional ones generated the author's question of how distributed knowledge is related to distributed power. It then considers such a categorization and stratification analysis in a French-language minority high school in Ontario (Canada).
