This paper discusses how the face-threatening potential of the communicative act of non-acceptance makes it a major candidate for intercultural miscommunication. It then proposes a dialogue framework which allows a comprehensive analysis of culture-preferential modes for nonacceptance realization and contextualization and possible perlocutionary effects, exemplified by extracts from German, British and intercultural German-British political discourse.
