Annotation

This paper demonstrates that intelligibility of closely related languages can largely be predicted by phonetic distances, yet less by lexical distances. The examined examples include the three mainland Scandinavian languages (Danish, Swedish and Norwegian) and the three West Germanic languages (Dutch, Frisian and Afrikaans).
