Annotation

This paper discusses how the post-independence St Lucian nationalist movement failed to incorporate the island's French-lexicon Kweyol into national plans for socio-economic reform, yet managed to convince St Lucians' (elite) of the language's value as a component of St Lucian culture and as a symbol of St Lucian national identity.
