Arguing for a critical pedagogy of English as a Global Language, using Santos' ideas on globalisation and the World Social Forum, as well as English as a foreign language teachers' statements on curriculum development, this paper states that employing English as a common language, not as a lingua franca, can offer opportunities for responsible cosmopolitan citizenship.
