H. points out a number of nonverbal and subtle verbal cues (such as terms of address, conversational patterns, etc.) which serve to restrict women to 'their' place and thus to maintain certain social power relationships. It is argued that women's language keeps women at a disadvantage whereas men's language ignores or depreciates them.
