Annotation

This study deals with uncertainty in the Gaeltacht language community regarding language choice or combination of languages to employ when raising their children to become highly competent, literate Irish-English bilinguals. It focuses on two aspects of public policy that stimulate Gaeltacht Irish speakers to employ only Irish with their children, despite of important divergence of opinion amongst the inhabitants on how much Irish should be employed with children both at home and at school to acquire Irish-English bilingualism.
