Annotation

This article explores the role of (the mostly prohibited) codeswitching by Zulu native language speaking junior secondary students in South African English first language multilingual classrooms. It is shown that learners use English-Zulu codeswitching when interacting among themselves, both in and outside the classroom, and that this practice serves both social and pedagogical functions.
