Annotation

This paper explains the notion of “Rusyn language”, discusses the development of four Rusyn standard languages, derived from dialects in the countries where Rusyns live, and focuses on linguistic and extra-linguistic factors that support the impact of Slovak as a large language upon the small Rusyn language in Slovakia. It also presents some questions regarding the sociology of the Rusyn language in Slovakia.
