Annotation

This paper deals with the sociolinguistic situation of towns in the Tlaxcala state of Mexico, where the use of the Nahuatl language locally referred to as Mexicano is rapidly decreasing. The focus lies on the nature of code restriction to specific social contexts, and the disjuncture that can happen when private 'family' languages are driven into the public domain such as schooling with the aim of language revitalization.
