Annotation

This study presents the Maguru panggul pedagogy, a traditional instruction form employed to teach Balinese Gamelan, as a semiotic apprenticeship in which students become active participants both by learning the music and add their knowledge about it during negotiated classroom communication. Employing the theory of mediated discourse analysis, data collected during research in two Balinese Gamelan classrooms in the United States are explored.
