Annotation

Drawing on genre analysis, ethnography and textual forms and norms exploration (Swales, 1990), this paper examines different rap genres, viz. New York City high school arts class teachers' favored "conscious rap", a politically progressive style rejected by their Black and Latino working-class students', who favor hard-core rap and a strong capitalist ideology.
