This article discusses how language standardization in various European institutions such as the courts, bureaucracy and education is inconsistent with the fact that accepted minority and regional languages are rarely standardised, and that the fact that minority and regional languages have been considered as defined, static systems for nation state language planning goals is contrary to the essentially dialogic nature of language.
