Annotation
This paper explores the use of code-switching with regard to meaning making in local Hawaïan comedy shows, using Bakhtin's work on carnival. It argues that the two comedy functions of marginalizing the Other and disrupting official reality perspectives are inextricably intertwined. It also raises the question of the pragmatics of creole languages.
