This article shortly discusses some frames and perspectives and general themes and issues adopted by studies in the new crosslinguistically oriented research field of interactional linguistics, which highlights linguistic structure in relation to spontaneous interaction. These studies focus on increments, i.e. grammatical extensions of completed units.
