The main goal of this volume is to broaden typology's horizons by reexamining existing typologies with larger language samples, investigating hitherto unconsidered typological fields, considering linguistic diversity more seriously, enhancing the link between typology and areal linguistics, and narrowing the gap to other fields, as e.g. historical linguistics and sociolinguistics.
