This exploration of two prototypic editorials on the 1991 Gulf War sets out to show how discourses function in conflict situations, and how they can be examined and tested for coherence. Equal attention is paid to compliance with and subtle disregarding of the argumentation rules, as well as to completely unwarranted conclusions.
