Annotation

This study discusses actual French language policy both with respect to its historical, political, and ideological foundations and with respect to its reception by speakers, the media, and the law-courts. The study then centers on the "loi Toubon" of 1994, the decrees on 'politically correct' language forms, and the linguistic material offered by official sources and published in the "Journal officiel".
