This book explores problem presentation and solution negotiation in troubled talk in naturally-occurring media, hotlines, and cyberspace. Three novel claims are presented: problems are often ventilated via detailed narrative discourse and story-internal tropes like metaphors and similes; figurative constructions often 'lubricate' interactive solution negotiation; and figurative and narrative self-construction resources used in the public arena are sometimes abused by media representatives.
