Annotation

This comprehensive study deals with policy, planning, ideology and practice with regard to the languages of Israel. The chapters respectively address the history and current status of the revitalized national language Hebrew, of the second official language Arabic, of the dominant international language English, and of the wide range of immigrant languages brought to Israel, especially the many Jewish languages. To finish, the book discusses the new language education policy, and the likelihood of an acceptance of linguistic diversity.
