Annotation

This book argues that language use in Jewish societies has to be considered as following especially principles concerning the connection between language and identity. Covered topics include the survival and 'sanctification' of Yiddish, the revival of Hebrew and Diaspora Hebrew, the concept of 'Jewish languages', and the role of sociolinguistic issues in the Holocaust and in the Arab-Israeli conflict.
