Annotation

This book explores the contradictory representation of masculinity in popular boys' literature in the United States. Popular boys' texts such as Harry Potter, Captain Underpants, and Japanese manga and anime frequently execute rituals of subject formation in a grotesque manner and often employ depictions of the abject, which repels adult readers, whilst drawing boys.
