Annotation

This volume explores retellings of traditional -in casu European- stories in another time and cultural setting and for a different audience. It discusses motivations for and functions of story retellings, and demonstrates how stories express societal aspirations. As some stories are more malleable than others, source stories' ethnocentric, androcentric and class-based assumptions may go on in retellings. Therefore, the study assesses the interpretation processes apparent in retellings.
