This ethnographic and discourse analytic research of an after-school video-making project, involving second-generation Southeast Asian American teenagers and their adult teachers, examines the connections among ethnicity, identity, and stereotype in this informal educational context. It is shown how individuals can reappropriate their ethnic group stereotypes to put themselves and others in interactionally meaningful positions, to perform new social actions, and to attribute new meanings to stereotypes.
