This volume shows that research on the impact of personal involvement in narrative discourse has benefited from a multidisciplinary approach. The analyses explore a variety of possible determinants of personal involvement in narrative discourse as well as different aspects of what the reader absorbes. In general, these contributions contest both the conception of what it means to comprehend fictional narratives' media presentations and the conception of the strategies via which this comprehension is gained.
