This reader addresses the following themes: early illustration of the lexicon employed by male homosexuals and later work on the presence of a discourse style defining gay identity; individuals' linguistic self-representation as sexual and gendered subjects; the way language mirrors, enhances or defies cultural norms signalling what is 'natural' and desirable in the sexual sphere; and sexual desire's verbal communication in various contexts, genres and media.
